But we won’t let nothin’ hold us back
We’re gonna get ourselves together, come on
We’re gon’ polish up our act, yeah
And if you’ve ever been held down before
I know that you refuse to be held down any more
Ain’t No Stoppin’ Us Now ~ McFadden & Whitehead
True to form, it takes more than a raging fever and another ear infection to keep Nik down for more than a moment or two. After a night of Tylenol and good dose of Zithromax, he woke refreshed and perky on Wednesday. Not quite full-throttle Nik —but close.
So, Nik has gone from the boy who fell asleep while actually playing with a toy on Tuesday
to —
Climbing to new heights on Tuesday afternoon and discovering the joys of dimmer switches.
Reaching the light switches from standing on the floor; I’ve reset my VCR/DVD player half a dozen times in the past 48 hours.
Learning the proper amount of force it takes to body slam the gate in the back hall open without making noise; we discovered this when we heard the inside garage door open yesterday afternoon. (Niksdad has since replaced the gate with something sturdier!)
Figuring out how to turn a cap on a bottle (great fine motor practice!). AND…
Operating a regular doorknob. (I’m
hopingpraying it was a fluke or beginners’ luck…)
My sanity was already hanging by the merest thread. It is gone; gone, I tell you. And I couldn’t be prouder…or more afraid!
Ummm, go Nik?? 😉
Oh, boy! Motor skills are great, but they create all those child-proofing challenges.
Time to start surfing the web for the tallest child-gate available. I’ve heard of someone who put up screen doors inside their house, but we haven’t quite reached that point here (getting close, though).
Oh, I just love reading this. That boy is a treasure. Get some sleep, mom, you’re gonna need it!
*sigh* momjbg, if ONLY I thought a screen would stop this kid! I’m thinking more along the lines of prison bars! (wink)
We still use the big green buket to put toys in at night; once Nik empties it in the morning, we do take it away so he can’t climb on it. Unless he starts moving the actual furniture, I think we’re safe for a little while from the climbing over the gate issue. I hope…I mean, it is Nik we’re talking about!
I am so happy that this guy gives you a run for your money.
We used to get a catalog called One Step Ahead, and we used to laugh and wonder who in the hell needed all of that protective equipment.
And now I know.
Glad he’s better.
This is a great post – you had me in stitches! Be afraid, be very afraid! LOL, just kidding. I love One Step Ahead too for all their child-proofing gear.
Go Nik! (And look out, Niksmom!)
Wow! He really is getting around! I am so happy. Falling asleep with the toy picture is precious. Thank goodness he is feeling better.
sanity? It has been far too long for me to remember life when that was an option…lol
Go Nik!
Wow- that certainly is a mixed bag of excitement and worry! I love the pic of Nik sleeping- how cute is that?
Oh- and that green tub he’s sitting in? We have the same one in blue, and it’s what my son insists on taking a bath in. We have to put it inside the bathtub and fill it with water. He calls it his “boat”. I’m just waiting for him to get stuck in it.
I’m really sorry to hear about that doorknob thing.
