It seems like things have been moving along at a nice clip in our lives lately. Nik’s been doing really well and making tremendous progress in many areas —especially in both receptive and expressive communication skills —. He’s been eating like a champ, growing like a weed and, generally, just taking off like a little rocket!
Alas, rockets often come crashing down unexpectedly. In less than 48 hours, Nik’s gone from his bubbly, exuberant, mostly fully engaged five-year old self to this:
Saw two of his favorite doctors today and they both knew, instantly, that there was something wrong. They just don’t know what. Ears? Fine. Lungs? Clear. Sinuses? No problem. Throat? A bit red —choking on a cracker on Wednesday night could do that to a child— but nothing remarkable. None the less, wonderful Dr. Mary did a strep culture; results won’t be back until Sunday evening.
So, we’re spending the weekend laying low and hanging out with our good, good friends Advil and Zithromax. Mommy might invite her friends, Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Noir, over to keep her company while Daddy works. If it gets really crazy, she might invite her old pal Jose Cuervo, too!
Oh, poor little dude. I hope he feels better soon. I like happy, mischievous Nik better!
Weird. We get strep tests the same day. Hope he feels better soon.
Nope, that’s definitely not the Nik I know…hope he kicks it soon, whatever it is. Hang in there.

Aw, that’s exactly how Max looks when he doesn’t feel well, he gets all droopy and then ALL he wants to do is lie down on Daddy. I hope Nik gets better, soon. Probably strep.

Charlie is just getting over impetigo (on his scalp–it’s been driving him crazy)—-same virus as strep. Just finished the antibiotic earlier this week.

Sigh. I know the saddness and frustration that goes along with everything going so well and then a sudden crash. It is so hard to watch, especially when you can’t figure out what is going on. Hugs.
Nik reminds me so much of M. When she is doing well she is doing very well and then suddenly she can’t function. I always take it hard.
Hopefully he has a little flu bug or something.

Hey, we have mutual friends. Cabernet Sauvignon and I are BFF’s although I’ve recently found a nice Italian Barollo I really get along with.
Poor Nik. I hope he’s feeling better soon. Patrick perked up today and I still have no idea what was wrong with him.
Invite your friend Kia over and she’ll bring your mutual friend, Pinot Grigio, with her. I hope he’s feeling better now!

I am sure it is hard knowing something is wrong but not what.
